What's happening to/in music right now?
- The music has evolved exponentially in the past 20 years from the late 80's where the element of "electronic" first began, up till now where its's almost indispensable.
Before the element of "electronic" began, we focused on each instrument in every song, how to make it all come together in the right way, and how to make it new and special, it's almost like there was more challenge for the individual musician, because you didn't have computers, to compose, tune (auto) and delete if something went wrong.
A musicians life was the music, where now, is it more about the fame?
Don't misunderstand me, I love the music we have today, but it just seem like it has become more about the "fame" of being a musician than the music in it self.
And also, have we run out of "New Sounds"? If we listen to some of the most popular musicians, like Flo Rida, most of his sounds are remakes of old 80's pop songs like Dead Or Alive's - "You spin me right round", And the 90's song, Eiffel 65's -"I'm Blue" - Where did originality go? And now also a new Danish "electronic" duo called Electric Lady Lab, has made a remake of Eurythmics - "Sweet Dreams" called "You and me".
But apparently it works, because people listen to it, maybe because it's a new, fresh, and more electronic twist to an already known melody, maybe because they're using our nostalgic feelings for the melodies? To reach a longer audience?
And to get back to something, maybe today it isn't as "easy" to become known for your music, because everybody wants to be famous, not for the music, but for the fame. I just think that's sad, because so many great musicians who really live for the music, never gets a chance, because of the competition "to become famous". But apparently it works, now music is now only enjoyable it's a great business and marked, but is it for the better?
- I'll end this now, leave you with your thoughts.
- Cath
